GARDENER, W.Va. -An integral part of the experience under the Friday night lights of high school football is the halftime performances of the marching bands.

The PikeView High School Band is reaching heights that will go down in the books.

This year’s show titled Imaginarium explores all parts of the imagination from happy to dark.

Senior drum major says that this year is special because of sharing it with her awesome band and freshman sister, as well as her unique salute.

“My salute is me opening a book and then twirling my arms and saluting to the judges. I came up with the book because our theme is imaginary and with the giant books and the arm twirling came from previous drum majors in PikeView’s history,” said Isabella Mitchem.

This band started working hard in the summer for the upcoming competition season. Bringing home two Divisions II Grand Championships, Overall Grand Championships, and a Grand Champion for the whole competition. This band has placed in every competition leading to the fulfillment of a promise.

“So, I made a casual promise at the sometime during band camp during the summer saying that if we won a Grand Champion award, that I would put pink in my hair, not really expecting it to happen, and then it happened four times. So, I had to follow through on my promise,” said Lucas Woods, Band Director for PVHS.

This small but mighty band has been moving mountains in the state. Landing them 2nd Overall in the state of West Virginia. Coming up the PikeView Band is taking on the biggest competition yet, the Governor’s Cup in Charleston, WV.

“Well, as a senior and as a leader, I am extremely proud of all of my peers and everybody that’s put in effort for our band. It just makes me really happy at the end of the day. I know we’re not the biggest band, but we sure are one of the strongest bands in the state,” said Aiden Keys, Band Leader, PVHS.

Soon to be on their way to Charleston these PikeView Panthers are on the prowl for another grand championship.

PikeView’s Band will head to the West Virginia Marching Band Invitational on October 26th along with 33 other bands featuring Bluefield and Princeton Senior High Schools.
