ATLANTA, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) – A grand jury handed down dozens of charges for the son and father both accused in connection to last month’s deadly shooting at Apalachee High School.
Colt Gray, 14, faces 55 counts, including charges of felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault for each of the four people killed.
Investigators say Gray brought an AR-style rifle with him to school in a backpack and later opened fire, killing two students and two teachers and leaving nine others injured on Sept. 4.
Gray’s father, 54-year-old Colin Gray, also faces 29 counts, including second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to children, involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct.
Police say he knowingly allowed his son to have access to the gun that was allegedly used in the shooting.
Police have said Colt will be tried as an adult. He and his father are expected to be tried separately.
Their next court date will be on Nov. 21.
The victims of the shooting were 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, math teacher Cristina Irimie and football coach and teacher Richard Aspinwall.
A hearing for Colin on Wednesday revealed many new details about the case.
Investigators said they found a notebook that Colt meticulously planned the shooting in, writing down the number of estimated deaths and injuries per hallway and classroom. He also allegedly had what authorities called a “shrine” to school shooters in his room.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Colt asked his father for several rifle accessories, like a tactical vest, laser sight and a mask. Authorities said Colt used most of them during the school shooting.
The GBI also said Colt’s family talked about getting him to see a counselor, but none of the plans came to fruition.
