The data also showed California had the most ex-Texans once again.

AUSTIN, Texas — After joining California as the only state with more than 30 million residents, data shows where those new Texans came from.

The U.S. Census Bureau released migration data that showed almost 612,000 people, who lived somewhere else the year before, moved to Texas in 2023.

However, 43% of those people came from outside of the United States. Florida saw a similar trend last year, but the migration data doesn’t show which countries those people came from.

Nationally, California also saw most ex-Texans move west while the newest Texans came from California once again. New York was the biggest producer of Florida residents as Florida residents fled to Georgia.

“I am happy. My dream is to study and learn English and graduate with a nursing degree,” Priscila Coronado said after moving from Guatemala to Miami. “There is no crime here and that’s an achievement.”

Texas is now home to more than 30.5 million people with its projected population expected to surpass 45 million by 2040.
