You might be unwittingly sabotaging your weight loss efforts by ignoring one crucial rule.

Losing weight is no walk in the park. You need unwavering dedication and focus to maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and resist the lure of sweet treats and calorie-laden meals.

A common pitfall that causes many to abandon their diets and eating plans is a lack of willpower. Anyone who has attempted to slim down understands that the mental struggle to stay on track can often be more challenging than the physical one.

However, a woman on TikTok claims she’s discovered a “golden rule” that should never be broken for effective weight loss, potentially helping you overcome the mental obstacles that derail your dieting efforts.

Bilan, who achieved significant weight loss herself, confessed to being “lazy” in her fitness regime and lacking the motivation to persist until she embraced a mantra that transformed her perspective on her objectives.

In her viral TikTok video, she said: “I personally find the phrase ‘making moves in silence’ to be very cringe, however, when it comes to your weight loss journey you need to live and die by that phrase. Nobody should know that you are losing weight. As soon as you start telling people, they’re going to start saying ‘Well done’, ‘Congrats’, they’re going to start giving you compliments, they’re going to start giving you your flowers.

“You’re going to start getting the endorphins that you should be getting once you’ve lost the weight [when they compliment you]. Now you’re getting all those feel-good endorphins before you actually start your weight loss journey, and you’re just going to revert straight back to laziness. That was the story of my life for so many years.”

In addition, Bilan offered other nuggets of wisdom for dropping the pounds, such as favouring walks over gym workouts. Noting that the gym can be intimidating for many, she suggested starting off with a gentle post-meal walk rather than splashing out on a gym membership right away.

She also spoke against cutting out takeaways and junk food abruptly, recommending a more moderate approach; for instance during her own dieting, she switched from fried chicken to grilled chicken in her takeouts, reducing calorie intake while still satisfying cravings for “junk” food.

Feedback on her video was overwhelmingly positive, with viewers expressing gratitude for her practical advice. Various individuals commented about embracing these strategies in their quest to keep fit.

One person said: “Yes, literally don’t tell anyone; people will start mentioning it to you once it’s noticeable anyway. I logged my progress blog-style online but not a word in real life,” while another individual added: “These are actually really good tips, which is rare to find nowadays.”
