Spick and span Airdrie school pupils were presented with a special certificate to recognise their efforts in keeping their community clean.
Councillor Helen Loughran, convener of the environment and climate change committee, and Councillor Michael McBride, education committee convener, visited Hilltop Primary to congratulate the youngsters on winning the top prize in Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Litter League.
The litter-picking competition for youths is part of the environmental charity’s annual Spring Clean Scotland campaign and saw 5864 children completing 185 clean-ups across the country.
Hilltop Primary won the Glasgow and Strathclyde award in 2023 and then scooped the Scotland-wide award this year after organising two litter picks and collecting 83 bags of litter.
“Congratulations to the pupils and teachers at Hilltop Primary School on their amazing work to keep their local area clean for everyone,” said Councillor Helen Loughran.
“It is so encouraging to see young people across North Lanarkshire taking part in Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Litter League and playing their part in tackling the problem of litter in our communities.
“Next year’s Spring Clean will run from March 21 to April 21, and I hope other schools, community groups and individuals follow Hilltop’s example and get involved.”
