Everyone wants their wedding to be perfect – but sometimes life has other plans.

Weddings are supposed to be the happiest days of people’s lives. You might be hoping that everything goes smoothly, but one small hiccup is all it takes for the day of your dreams to not quite go to plan.

One bride was left heartbroken after her wedding photographer deleted all the photos from her big day in a “petty” act of revenge over a misunderstanding at the reception. The bride’s sister took to Reddit to share the shocking tale, revealing that the photographer seemed “off” from the start of the wedding.

Things took a turn for the worse at the reception when the photographer asked if he could grab something to eat. The bride responded with six words: “Of course not, go for it!” However, he misunderstood her response, stormed out of the wedding and deleted all the photos.

The bride’s sister recalled the incident at her sibling’s wedding, stating: “Eventually, we get to the reception, and food is served buffet style, which was lovely. We were all sat down when I heard the photographer approach the bride and groom and ask, ‘Would you mind if I got myself some food?’ My sister responded, ‘Of course not, go for it!’

“I think you can see where I’m going with this. He took ‘No, I don’t mind’ as ‘No, you may not’. He just said ‘Okay’ and walked out, vanishing for the night, and didn’t come back.”

It was later discovered that the photographer had left because he thought he “wasn’t allowed to eat at the buffet”, she wrote, leaving everyone involved “dumbfounded” as they were sure the invitation to eat was clearly communicated.

Internet users were also perplexed by the story, as many highlighted the clarity in the bride’s comment.

One commenter pointed out the error in interpreting such polite inquiries, saying: “This is wild, it always bothers me when people are asked ‘do you mind’ and they respond in the affirmative when really they should be saying they don’t mind. Your sister was completely correct in what she said. And she made it pretty clear with the ‘go for it’. How bizarre.”

Yet another person voiced their opinion, stating: “The correct answer to ‘do you mind…’ if you don’t mind is definitely ‘no’, but colloquially, it’s honestly gotten to the point where it’s ambiguous, so I’ve stopped using it. I say, ‘is it ok…’ instead, because the answer is much clearer.”
