BBC Breakfast stalwarts Carol Kirkwood and Naga Munchetty are known for their jovial banter during the morning show. On the programme aired on Thursday (October 17), giggles ensued as Naga playfully challenged Carol to deliver a “beautifully choreographed” weather forecast.

Naga set a playful task for Carol during the broadcast, admitting later that she really didn’t expect Carol to meet the challenge, secretly hoping for her to stumble. With the UK expecting heavy rain, Naga cheekily asked for Carol to present a “flawless” report on the weather, fully aware that the downpour was bound to dampen spirits.

Despite giving it her all, Carol had to confess to Naga and fellow presenter Ben Thompson that she hadn’t quite hit the mark, expressing her disappointment: “Naga and Ben, I’ve failed miserably, it wasn’t flawless, it wasn’t beautifully choreographed.”

Naga’s compassionate response from Radio 5Live came just as Ben added his two pence, aiming to lift the mood: “It was just the weather, it wasn’t your performance. That’s the rubbish bit, the weather.” Ben’s unexpected defence prompted a surprised reaction from Naga who quipped back: “That’s nice because I was going to say I never expected Carol to be flawless.”

Carol couldn’t help but laugh at this, jesting in high spirits: “I am outraged Naga, outraged.”

In other news, Naga’s usual co-host Charlie Stayt has recently attracted criticism from viewers over how he interacted with Carol during a segment involving a malfunction with their weather app, reports the Express.

The app had been issuing severe warnings of an impending hurricane, which was ‘false’. To clarify the mistake, Charlie sought Carol’s confirmation. He asked: “Are you going to fix this Carol? This has been going on for many hours now. Is anything actually happening? Are you going to fix it?”

“Of course Charlie! Of course, we are. It is a big problem, it’s not just one that can be sorted like that (snaps fingers),” Carol retorted. “So our technicians are working on it as fast as they can and it will be sorted as quickly as it possibly can, again our apologies on this.”

Viewers were annoyed by the exchange and took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to criticise his behaviour in support of Carol. One person wrote:”Was there really a need for Charlie Stayt to speak to Carol Kirkwood the way he did about the weather app glitch on the last weather bulletin? I thought he was mucking about at first. Going all Paxman on a work colleague seemed a bit much.”

Another user expressed: “Absolutely disgraceful by Charlie on @bbcbreakfast. There’s a glitch on the @bbcweather app showing incorrect wind speeds. He shouted at Carol and demanded to know when it would be fixed. Embarrassing and petulant. He owes her an apology.”
