Scots comedian Janey Godley said the support and love she has received every day is “utterly outstanding” as she continues end of life cancer care.

The former BBC Radio 4 host was initially diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2021, but despite receiving treatment and getting the all-clear, the disease returned. In September, the 63-year-old revealed she would be getting palliative care in a hospice.

Since then her star pals have been keeping her spirits up at the Prince and Princess of Wales Glasgow hospice where she’s receiving end of life care for terminal cancer.

The mum-of-one took to X to share the heartwarming post: “Never forget your your pals – it’s them who hold you up!”

She later said the “outpouring of love every day is utterly outstanding” as she has been inundated with good wishes from fans.

This week, fellow Scots comic icon Elaine C Smith visited Janey in the hospice with flowers and gifts.

Janey shared a snap of her and the Two Doors Down star, 66, who she hailed as the “Queen of my comedy heart”.

The pair starred together on BBC Radio 4 show Loose Ends in 2022 and Elaine also teamed up with Janey for the third part of her lockdown series of shorts, Alone in 2020.

During the documentary, ‘The Moments That Made’, Janey appeared on the show to talk about how about how much of a huge inspiration Elaine had been to her.

The Glasgow-born star, who found viral fame during the pandemic with her dubbed pastiches of Nicola Sturgeon’s coronavirus news briefings, told viewers: “If she hadn’t been her, I wouldn’t be me.”

On Friday, she shared a clip of her and best pal Shirley Doig belting out Taylor Swift tunes together.

The self-proclaimed “Swifties,” began singing the 2012 hit I Knew You Were Trouble, before singing Elbow’s One Day Like This while admiring the view from her window.

Janey said: “Shirley and me, and we’re having a good old day, still in the hospice still got some tubes.

“I’ve got a tube taking stuff for my tummy, I’ve got a drip giving me some water because I’m still a bit thirsty and I’m at the end-of-life care.

“I don’t have all the answers that you have all the questions to, but my mouth’s a bit dry hence that noise,” Janey added: “Sending you my love,” as she blew a kiss to the camera.

She was inundated with messages from fans including @liz_langfield who wrote: “Much love to you and Shirley. Enjoy the beautiful day and the view”.

Gilly Dee said: “Everybody needs a Shirley” while @Muminthecountry commented: “What a woman. Still making people laugh. A reminder of how lucky I am.”

TV cook Nigella Lawson added: “I hope you’re basking in it. You deserve to”, while legendary Star Wars actor Mark Hamill said: “Sending you much love & best wishes always, Janey.”
