A man who was attacked by a ‘sexually frustrated’ dolphin says he is lucky to be alive.

It was reported last month that a single dolphin in Fukui, Japan, has been responsible for terrorising the town and is behind 15 attacks this summer alone.

There are reports that the dolphin has been trying to press his genitals against other victims.

One of the people attacked is Takuma Goto, who had been swimming with a friend when the incident unfolded.

Dolphin attacks against humans are rare which gave Takuma a false sense of security when he was out for a swim.

It first of all attacked Takuma’s friend and Takuma swam to try and help him when he heard his cries.

He told The Telegraph how after this the dolphin went for him in an unprovoked attack.

Takuma said: ‘I knew it was not a shark, but it came straight at me.

‘It attacked me and bit me.

‘It kept attacking me and I genuinely believed that I was going to die. I was most worried that I was going to be dragged under the water and further out to sea.’

A surfer eventually came to Takuma’s rescue and onlookers watched on in horror from the beach.

He washed his wounds with water once he was back on the beach.

Takuma continued: ‘The insides of my finger were popping out.’

He was eventually taken to a nearby hospital and was left with a gash on his index finger which required five stitches.

He was also left with bite wounds to his left wrist and forearm and his right hand and upper arm.

Experts believe the male dolphin may have been trying to communicate through biting, which is a common technique they can use.

The breed of dolphin that has been carrying out the attacks is believed to be a Indo-Pacific bottlenose.

This type of species often lives in groups, so it is believed he might be biting people because he is lonely.

The dolphin could have been shunned from his own community, hence the need to try and be social with humans.

Nonetheless, warning signs have been placed around beaches to inform people about the dolphin.

Takuma says he never wants to go back out to sea now because of the attack.
