Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans has revealed he stocks up on baked beans over fears his career might collapse without warning.

Speaking to PR guru Rich Leigh on The Starting Line Up podcast, the Welsh opera singer shared his quirky practice: “If you go into my cupboard, in there, there will be at least 50 tins of baked beans,” he disclosed.

When quizzed about this unusual habit, the Carmarthen-born vocalist admitted it’s not due to apocalypse worries, as host Rich initially thought, but rather a concern that his career could falter.

He elaborated: “It’s like my career is going to end, well I’ve got 50 tins of baked beans in the cupboard, that’ll keep me going for a bit.”

He reflected on the freelancer’s mindset and the difficulty of living in the moment, saying: “That’s the mind of a freelancer I think, the mind of a worrier. It’s hard to enjoy the moment.

“When I think of some of the stuff I’ve done, not in an arrogant way, like Phantom of the Opera, it’s the 25th anniversary, going to millions of cinemas worldwide and one of the biggest selling DVD’s of all time (and) I was so full of anxiety when I was doing it I hated every single living second of it. It was just like why can’t I enjoy those moments.”

The Go Compare icon found himself at the centre of a storm last Saturday (October 12) after he was spotted with his hand around dance partner Katya Jones’s waist, which she appeared to brush off. However, the duo later clarified that it was merely an ‘inside joke’.

On Strictly’s companion programme, It Takes Two, Katya addressed the incident: “The idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is total nonsense, and those that have doubts, you guys have got it wrong.

“So hopefully this will be the end of it, and you just keep making me smile. I can’t sit here watching this man being portrayed as someone he’s not.”

Following a week rife with controversy, Wynne and Katya are gearing up to return to the Strictly stage this weekend, aiming to secure their place in the following round. Having first captured the public’s attention as an opera singer, Wynne became a familiar face on television through his lead role in the Go Compare adverts.

His career has since expanded to include stints on Celebrity MasterChef and, most recently, Strictly Come Dancing.
