FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. – West Virginia’s largest single-day festival brought thousands of visitors to watch thrilling activities from on top and below the New River Gorge Bridge.

According to Tim Naylor, Executive Assistant of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, this year’s Bridge Day expected to have 60 to 100,000 visitors from all over the world gathered to take in the thrill and beauty of the West Virginia mountains.

Naylor added there were 325 registered BASE jumpers, which he expected to jump multiple times.

“They’ll probably get a couple jumps in each,” said Naylor. “So, we’re probably looking at about 700, 750 total jumps this year.“

Along with BASE jumping, the day also consisted of a 5K run, rappelling and high line, bridge walk and whitewater rafting.

This year the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team brought something new to the event. At 6,000 feet a plane dropped seven soldiers who carried American flags down to the bottom of the bridge.
