North Lanarkshire Council is seeking a contract partner to help residents access social work services.

Via the local health and social care partnership, the local authority is seeking to establish a service providing advice and support for people who independently pay for staff using money provided through its social work department under the self-directed social work system.

It has advertised for a contractor to support budget holders in returning unused funds to the council and this assistance should be provided through various means including in person.

Potential contractors should apply to the council via the Public Contracts Scotland tendering system and have until November 4 to do so.

Introduced in 2013, the Social Care (Self-directed Support) Act was intended to give people greater choice and control over the care they receive, though subsequent reports have called for more consistent implementation of the legislation and a greater extent of national oversight.

The council is also looking to engage with third party organisation to provide services intended to provide support for unpaid carers in the area.

The local authority has advertised a contract aimed at bringing in organisations capable of giving support to unpaid adult or young carers, in line with its obligations under the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 and Self-Directed Support (Scotland) Act 2013.

Two specific areas it has advertised relate to condition specific support for people providing care to people with dementia, while another focuses on people immediately following discharge from hospital.

In both cases the appointed organisation will be expected to help with adult carer support plans, as well as outcome grants and short breaks for carers.

Potential contractors can submit bids through the Public Contracts Scotland tendering process and the deadline to apply is October 29.
