BLUEFIELD, Va. -Sunday was the last day of Bluefield University‘s four-day ’Homecoming and Family Weekend Celebration.’ To wind down the weekend, one of the final events was a homecoming worship service with Highlands Fellowship.

We spoke to some of the Alumni attending the service, including Jim and Debbie Pritchett, a couple who met at Bluefield University, back when it was ‘Bluefield College.’

“This school means so much to us. It helped us find our direction in life, and then we met here, and we just celebrated our fiftieth anniversary,” says Jim Pritchett.

Everyone we spoke to praised the homecoming festivities, calling it a great way to reunite with friends you haven’t seen in years and an opportunity to worship together.

“Bluefield had such a spiritual impact on us, and so the church service is very much a part of the whole spiritual climate of the university,” says Debbie Pritchett.

“Yeah, it’s central to what Bluefield University is all about, really,” adds Jim Pritchett.

“It’s what we’re here for and we’re here to be a light out to the community, and the school likes to be known as the ‘light on the hill,’ so I think that’s perfect,” says Heather Harris, a trustee at Bluefield University and another former student.

Harris and the Pritchetts encourage alumni who didn’t come to Bluefield University’s homecoming to consider coming to next year’s, with Jim Pritchett adding, you’re missing out if you don’t.
