HINTON, W. Va. -Over in Summers County, educators used the warm Sunday afternoon to raise awareness of a something on the ballot this November they say will be an improvement in the lives of local kids.

Organized by the Summers County Committee for Excellence in Education, the Roses parking lot was the location of a free “Hot Dog Rally, Dance and Karaoke Fest.” The purpose of this party: to encourage Summers County to pass the school levy.

While this levy will raise taxes, educators we spoke to say this will help make important improvements to the Summers County Schools in maintenance, security, and education, while also being a smaller dollar amount than other counties.

“…Our kids are suffering because we don’t have the same things that other counties that passed the levy do, and we want to give our kids all the opportunities we can because they deserve the best,” says Susan Newsome, principal of Jumping Branch Elementary.

“…Our kids need… our county, our community needs a better future, and this will be a start in that direction,” says Megan Harvey, a board member of Summers County Schools.

Newsome and Harvey both encourage Summers County residents to vote yes to the levy on November 5th, adding that this extra funding is “all for the kids.”
