Jeremy Clarkson has updated fans regarding his health after disclosing that he underwent a consequential heart surgery.
The Clarkson’s Farm presenter shared harrowing details of how medics warned him he was perilously close to death before he was rushed for an urgent operation to install a stent.
The 64-year-old initially became unwell while on holiday and, after a sharp decline in his condition once back home, suspected he might be suffering from a heart attack, the Mirror reports.
Following the surge of concern following news of his surgery, Jeremy reassured his followers, declaring: “I’m very grateful to everyone who sent supportive messages but I’m fine.”
He also showcased his renowned wit when commenting to The Sun, jesting: “I just have to not do any manual labour or dishwasher emptying for the next four years. At least I think that’s what the doctor said.”
It was in his column for The Sunday Times where Jeremy first recounted the incident, reflecting: “I was at the breakfast table and when I stood up to leave, I had to take a moment to make sure my limbs were working properly.”
Jeremy recounted feeling “clammy”, experiencing “tightness in my chest”, and “pins and needles in my left arm”. After hearing about former Scottish first minister Alex Salmond’s fatal heart attack, he decided to seek medical attention.
He was taken by ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests, and X-rays ruled out a heart attack. In the “operating theatre”, further examinations revealed he was “days away” from becoming very ill.
Jeremy explained: “It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way.”
He continued: “The question was this. Were the arteries so ruined that I’d need an emergency heart bypass? Or could he use Dyno-Rods and ultrasonic battering rams to loosen them up before inserting a stent? Mercifully, this turned out to be possible.”
He described the procedure to insert the stent, which wasn’t “especially painful. Just odd.” Upon returning home, he reflected: “Crikey, that was close.”
Jeremy has previously expressed concerns about his health, admitting: “I don’t have long left” amid worries that his “memory is shot” and could later develop into dementia.
Despite this, he’s not slowing down and is currently filming a new season of Clarkson’s Farm on his Diddly Squat Farm.
