Dunblane mother and son partnership Barbara Annis and Murray Templeton conquered a three peaks challenge at the weekend.

The pair took on the gruelling climbs as part of their fundraising for the Boys Brigade Malawi 25 project, which Murray is a part of, reaching the peaks of some of the areas best-known peaks in the space of eight hours on Saturday.

Starting with Ben Ledi in the Trossachs, where the weather was cold and cloudy, Barbara led Murray up the 2,884ft peak, taking a quick photo before heading straight down to jump in the car and drive to Ben A’an, where the weather had improved for their ascent of its 1,500ft.

After a short lunch break and another drive, the two finished their challenge accompanied by friends who encouraged them up Dumyat for a finish with a view.

Barbara took on the challenge to support Murray. He is one of 17 young men part of Dunblane BB’s Malawi 25 team, which will travel to the town’s partnership community, Likhubula, in July 2025.

Barbara’s employer, Edrington, and its charitable arm, The Robertson Trust, is quadrupling all donations made to her sponsorship efforts so she is keen to encourage those who are inspired by her efforts to donate online. Their JustGiving page can be found at bit.ly/barbaramurray and they are grateful for any sponsorship from the public, which will all ultimately support the full team of boys and leaders travelling to Malawi.

Barbara is also organising a Whisky Tasting evening along with other parents of the Malawi 25 team. This takes place on Friday November 1 from 7pm-10pm at Dunblane Cathedral Halls. Tickets are £25 and include six Islay drams, as well as expert commentary and comedy from Colin Anderson. Contact via [email protected] to reserve tickets or call 01786 821387. Over-18s only.
