Electric shavers are a massive time and effort saver, but they’re typically a considerably bigger investment that a pack of disposable razors. However, the Philips Series 3000 with SkinProtect Technology, down at £69.99 from £159.99 on Amazon, cuts that initial outlay down by a huge margin.

Its 27 self-sharpening PowerCut blades perform like new every day and cut up to 55,000 times per minute just above the skin level for a comprehensive, clean, and comfortable shave. This waterproof shaver can be used in the shower, with foam, or dry, and its ergonomic handle is a breeze to grip and control while you shave. The 5D Pivot and Flex heads mould to the contours of your face and jaw, providing an even and comfortable shave across your whole face and neck.

The pop-out trimmer completes the package, allowing for easily sharpening up your hairline, sideburns, or moustache. It’s rechargeable too, with a USB cable, charging stand, and travel pouch included. To minimise waste, Philips hasn’t included a USB adaptor, but its cable should be compatible with most adaptors you already own.

They added: “The charging stand is a convenient touch but you can use the cable direct to the razor as an alternative – I have found this useful when travelling.”

Some have noted that it might not give as close a shave as a wet-specific alternative: “I was fed up with wet shaving so I thought I would buy a rechargeable razor. It does an adequate job but not as close as the wet shave,” said one three-star review. Others have said that it wasn’t as comfortable as they had hoped, with one writing: “While this model has a lot going for it in terms of closeness of shave, ergonomics and not least of all the cost the feel of the shaving heads on the skin is not great and feels rough compared to my previous razors.”

If you’re looking for a more premium experience, Braun’s Series 9 Pro+ is down to £359.99 from £599.99 at the moment. For those on tighter budgets, this rotary option from Remington will do a decent job for £39.99. All told, the Philips Series 3000 for £69.99 offers great value thanks to its self-sharpening blades and face-moulding heads, and it would be a great stocking filler for any stubbly loved ones.
