BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -While it may be mid-October, organizers are already getting prepared for the Bluefield, West Virginia, Christmas Parade’s return to College Avenue this December 7th, and this year, they’re asking for help from the community to grow this Christmas City tradition.

The Bluefield West Virginia Fire Department first got involved in the parade during the height of the COVID pandemic, to bring holiday spirit to the community during a time of struggle. Now, they are working to continue the tradition, encouraging people to join them on the parade route in a float of their own.

There will also be a competition to award those with creative floats, with plaques given to first, second, third, and “City Manager’s Choice.” The Lieutenant of the Bluefield, West Virginia, Fire Department, Bryan Carr, says making a float can be hard work, but it is a rewarding experience, both for you and your community.

“…Bluefield is the Christmas City. We would love to make it the biggest Christmas parade in West Virginia if possible, so we would love to have as many people out…” says Lt. Carr, “…To see all the faces and all the kids, it’s a blast. It really warms your heart, especially in the wintertime. It warms it and makes it fun for us.”

Lt. Carr says those interested need to complete an information form by November 22nd.

You can get that form from the City Hall or by emailing the fire chief at [email protected]

The floats will start lining up on December 7th between South and Jefferson Streets at 5:00 pm, and will make their way down College Ave. until they get to Copley Ave.
