BEE CAVE, Texas — Neighbors in the two cities of Lakeway and Bee Cave are celebrating a judge’s ruling in their fight against a development going up in Bee Cave.
A warehouse is being constructed off Highway 71 near Serene Hills Drive. Some neighbors are worried about construction noise and the brightness of the lights at night, so they formed a group called “Neighbors for Responsible Development.”
Residents, along with the cities of Bee Cave and Lakeway, filed a lawsuit against the developers.
“Bee Cave was awarded a temporary restraining order against the site. They have not submitted site plans, they did not submit construction documents, and have prevented city officials from inspecting it,” Bee Cave Mayor Kara King said.
As a result of Friday’s ruling, construction has been halted for 14 days. On Monday, crews loaded up equipment. King said the developers now have to provide documents of site plans to the city.
In the end, King wants the building knocked down.
“We have an injunction hearing November 12th. We are going ask the court to pause all the construction until we go to trial and get this case resolved in front of a jury,” King said.
Kelli Tejada lives in Bee Cave across from the development. She has lived in her home since 2019 after being drawn by the Hill Country’s peace and quiet.
But now Tejada said she and about 1,900 other residents nearby are worried about the development.
“Eyesore that’s devaluing our property. It’s going to bring in semi-truck traffic that our roads were not designed for. It will bring a lot of light population,” Tejada said.
In the past, a spokesperson for the company told KVUE that company leaders are focused on working constructively with neighbors to achieve a successful outcome for everyone involved.
