A murder investigation has been launched after one man died and another was found injured in an incident close to a Scots community centre.
Emergency services raced to Burnbank Centre in Hamilton after receiving reports of an alleged knife attack at around 5.30pm on Monday, October 21. Crews attended and a 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 59-year-old man was rushed to hospital by ambulance. His current condition is unknown.
Detectives probing the incidents confirmed today they are treating them as murder and attempted murder. A 56-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.
Officers remain in the area and there are some road closures in place on Whitehill Road and Purdie Street. The closures are likely to remain in place until around midday today to allow investigations to be carried out.
Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area. Images from the scene on Monday show the area taped off. The large cordon is surrounded by multiple emergency service vehicles.
Superintendent Richard Taylor, Motherwell Police Station, said: “We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public. We have an increased police presence in the area as we understand this could be a very upsetting and worrying time for the local community. Anyone with concerns is asked to speak to these officers.”
