Dusting isn’t exactly a beloved household task, but it’s a necessary one – especially if you live in an older property where dust seems to build up at an alarming rate.

Despite your best efforts to maintain a spotless home, a layer of dust can instantly make everything appear untidy and neglected. It often feels as though dust materialises from nowhere just after you’ve finished cleaning, creating a never-ending and exhausting cycle.

However, a cleaning guru on social media has stepped in with a very useful tip. Lifestyle influencer @mama_mila_ suggests that you can concoct your own dust-trapping cleaning spray at home using just three ingredients, reports the Express.

The cleaning expert, who boasts a whopping 1.3 million followers, is renowned for her straightforward home hacks that are easy to adopt in your own dwelling. She covers a wide range of topics, from travel tips to mould removal techniques – and in a recent video, she revealed some of the most effective methods to keep dust at bay.

To begin, you’ll need three ingredients: water, white vinegar, and lemon oil, which can be purchased for £3 from Amazon or £2.99 from the Soapmaker’s Store.

Next, take a spray bottle and mix in one cup of water, a quarter cup of white vinegar, and a few drops of lemon oil, then give it a good shake to combine.

Chantel reveals that this concoction will produce a DIY dusting spray that aids in ‘capturing’ dust. After testing it on her bedside table, the cleaning cloth was laden with dirt and debris it had collected.

But it’s not just surfaces where this spray can be utilised. Chantel further suggested using this on your windows and window ledges, buffing it in with a mop to demonstrate the ‘true’ versatility of the spray.

Not only is it efficient at cleaning, but the fresh lemon aroma from the oil will also permeate your entire home with a delightful scent.

And for those tricky-to-clean areas plagued by dust, such as inside lampshades, Chantel recommends using a lint roller instead of a cloth to really get in there and collect all the debris.

In the same vein, placing a sheet of newspaper atop your high cabinets can also lessen the need for dusting them – all you have to do is carefully remove and replace the sheets every few days, and discard the dusty ones.
