Liam Payne‘s father has made a solemn promise to “do the right thing” and stay with his late son.
The former One Direction star tragically fell from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last week, leading to his untimely death at the age of 31.
The singer suffered multiple traumas resulting in an “internal and external haemorrhage”. It was later revealed that traces of Class A drugs were found in his system, despite him being clean in the days leading up to his tragic passing.
Friends have since alleged that local drug dealers had targeted Liam, who had been clean just two days prior after undergoing medical checks for his American visa renewal. An autopsy conducted following his death on Wednesday confirmed the presence of a class-A drug, as reported by respected news portal Infobae.
ABC News suggested that one of these substances was “pink cocaine”, a deadly cocktail of drugs including MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepine and crack. Now, Geoff, Liam’s devastated father, who flew to Argentina shortly after his son’s death, has pledged to stay with him until he can bring him back to the UK.
Prosecutor Andrés Esteban Madrea, who is leading the investigation into Liam’s death, has cautioned Geoff that it could take ten days for the examination results to be confirmed and until then, he cannot bring Liam back to the UK, reports the Mirror.
Geoff is reportedly finding the circumstances “really tough”, as the death of his only son has left him “heartbroken”.
According to a friend speaking to MailOnline: “But he has vowed to do right by Liam and will not go home without him,” They further informed that Geoff’s biggest struggle is with the uncertainty: “It is the uncertainty of not knowing when this ordeal will be over is what he is finding very difficult to deal with.
“The Argentine officials say they expect the results to take ten days, but it might be a lot less time than that.”
On Tuesday, six days after Liam Payne’s tragic passing, authorities revisited his hotel.
Post several hours, they emerged carrying boxes marked “CCTV”.
A person briefed on the investigation shared: “Detectives have all the footage now from Liam’s entire stay – from the moment he checked in to the hours after he died. Police are determined to trace everyone and have also been given a list of all guests as well as visitors. In addition, they have a full list of employees.”
It will take several weeks for the conclusive toxicology results to be made available; however, an initial assessment implied exposure to cocaine, an official confided to Associated Press, cautioning though that preliminary findings may not accurately reflect concentrations in the bloodstream at death.
In the investigation, forensic analysis is being conducted on mobile phones, computers, and security cameras, a process that, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, “require a longer analysis time”. A statement from the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office further noted that the event reconstruction, which has included taking numerous statements from hotel staff and medical workers, is “still ongoing”.
