An NHS doctor has shared her top tip on TikTok, for blasting away the common cold that will help you get rid of your sniffles quicker.

As the temperature drops, the dreaded season of coughs and colds loom at the back of everyone’s mind.

In the UK cold and flu season runs from November to March and peaks between December and January, the Mirror reports.

Although were not yet at the start of the season, colds can strike at any moment due to the unpredictable British weather. So, it’s important to be prepared if you catch it.

One NHS doctor has given her tips to help us this winter. Although we cannot completely fend off a cold, Doctor Shireen took to TikTok to revealed that there is ways to reduce the grip the cold has over our bodies.

She said: “I’m an NHS GP and I’m going to give you guys one small, extremely easy tip that’s going to reduce the duration and severity of any cold you have this winter.

“The second you notice an itchy throat, a runny nose, itchy eyes, anything that might suggest you’ve got a cough or a cold coming, what I want you to do is take two things. Vitamin C and zinc. You can actually get these Berocca-style tablets that you pop into water – just start it.

“You can’t prevent coughs or colds, but research is out there to show that taking zinc and vitamin C reduces the duration and severity. I personally have been doing this for the past couple of years, and I can tell you it really works.”

These two items are available to purchase in most super markets, sometimes paired in tablets together and relatively cheep too.

TikTok users commented on the video thanking the doctor for her helpful tip, and swore they’d give her approach a try next time they felt they were catching the cold.

Some commenters even shared success stories, having sworn by similar methods for ages.

One health-savvy user shared: “Take two multivitamins every day. Since doing it years and years ago, I hardly get sick, and if I do, it’s mild.”

Meanwhile, another added: “I do this and have copious amounts of raw garlic, honey and sleep and I’m convinced this is why I’m rarely ill for more than 2-3 days.”
