If you’re planning a holiday to Spain and wish to sidestep the bustling nightlife of Benidorm, consider the charming town of Altea.

Described as the Costa Blanca’s “most picturesque” destination, Altea is a mere 20-minute car journey from Benidorm itself. It offers tranquillity and unmatched beauty, and is easily reached by public transport for those wanting respite from the lively nightlife.

A local YouTuber known as ‘Benidorm by Ana’, whose channel has garnered more than 17,000 followers by providing news and insights about the area, showcased Altea in one of her recent uploads. She opened her video by saying: “Altea is one of the most picturesque towns on the Costa Blanca […] The name Altea itself is thought to come from the Greek word ‘Althaia’, which means ‘healing’, as the town has long been a peaceful, authentic heaven.”

During her stroll through Altea, Ana spoke of the town’s rich history while showcasing stunning vistas overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. She said there are “incredible” restaurants – including some with Michelin stars – that boast “direct views” of the coastline. She added: “If you want to have the best views in these restaurants, make sure you book in advance because these tables are quite difficult to get.”

Showing viewers around the Old Town’s central square, she explained that in summer there is a “crafts market” as well as street artists, singers, photographers, and even people who “make colourful balloons for children”. She noted for individuals using wheelchairs or with buggies that the town’s winding streets shouldn’t be an issue, adding: “There are other areas that are accessible, and you will still be able to get up to the Old Town by other roads going around.”

The weather in Altea is as delightful as one might expect, with Ana saying: “Even now the weather is very nice,” Ana commented. We are heading towards the end of October and it is still more than 23C outside. The sun is shining.”

Commenting on the video, people shared their own experiences of Altea. “Love Altea,” one said simply. Another wrote: ” Always go to Altea for a day out … we get off the bus at the marina and walk the prom … stopping for a coffee (or a beer!) … great day out from Benidorm.”
