From saving for the holidays to savvy Christmas shopping, money-saving experts have detailed every hack and trick that could save you hundreds of pounds this December. Savings experts at Tiger.co.uk have outlined seven simple ways you could put aside £540 between now and Christmas.

The most lucrative of these is using second-hand sites such as eBay, Vinted or Depop to sell your unwanted items and make a potential monthly income of £77.43 based on selling just 12 items a month. For anyone who’s been abroad this year, the experts recommended checking if you have leftover currency you still need to exchange.

Their research revealed over a third of holidaymakers come back home with over £50 in international currency. In stark contrast, only 12% get this cash exchanged.

The experts also noted that cutting streaming subscriptions could save between £7.99 and £46.95 every month – if you can do without for a few weeks. If you don’t want to cut back on spending, the experts encourage shoppers to make sure they’re taking advantage of every cashback offer available.

This could put up to £53 back into your pocket per month. Tiger experts have highlighted: “Some popular rewards platforms say they could save you up to £700 a year. It can also pay to switch some of your monthly necessities, such as credit card and insurance.”

They encouraged consumers to ensure they’re equipped with the right products that offer adequate coverage, which could lead to monthly savings of £13.83. However, when it comes to car insurance, the timing of your purchase is crucial for maximising savings. Recent data indicates that renewing your policy between 15 and 24 days in advance could slash your premium by 33%, equating to a monthly saving of £21.90 based on the average UK costs.
