When it comes to electric shavers, you often get what you pay for when it comes to comfort, control and a gentle shave – even if you haven’t been keeping on top of your facial fuzz. And right now you can pick up a bona fide leader in the shaving world at a cut price: the Braun Series 9 Pro Electric Shaver for £218.47, down from £479.99.

Braun claims this is the world’s most efficient men’s shaver, complete with a new ProHead that combines a series of different blades to ensure maximum smoothness. With the new ProLift trimmer that promises a 10% faster shave over the previous Series 9, this 100% waterproof shaver has five different heads running in tandem: on either side, there are the close-cutting heads that will lop those hairs down to 0.05mm, another blade to protect your skin, another for catching longer hairs without snagging, and another for picking up hairs no matter which direction they’re growing in.

The head has a 40-degree rotation range that automatically matches the contours of your face, jaw, and neck, ensuring those hard-to-reach areas find themselves getting the shave they’re desperate to avoid, and the four-week battery life ensures you can look your best whether you’re at home or out camping in the wilderness. The Pro trimmer on the rear is a popular feature that makes it easy to sculpt your edges, too.

This Braun has a five-year warranty, a lifetime sharpness on its blades, and a Which? Best Buy award from September 2023. It also comes with a charging stand, travel case and a cleaning brush.

From over 570 reviews, Amazon customers have given an average rating of 4.4/5, and over 390 of those have awarded the top marks. “This is a lot of money but worth it. So much better than my old Braun. Shaves as good as a wet shave and very quickly. Had it 3 weeks and 3 bars of power used out of 5. Even used to shave the hair in the back of my neck. Worth the money,” raved one five-star review.

“This is a good foil shaver and performs better than my older one which finally died after nearly 10 years,” said another reviewer. “It’s quieter and seems to get a closer shave… Battery life seems to be very good.”

Another added: “This is a serious bit of kit, the best razor I’ve ever had. It is of course seriously expensive but for me worth every penny. Such a smooth shave and achieved quickly. The battery charge lasts forever. I fully recommend.”

Some, however, have had issues with the shaver: “I have now been using my new Braun shaver for about three weeks, the shave is close but unwieldy, not easy to get to all the nooks and crannies.” Another said: “It’s comfortable and easy to use, and it gets close enough, but it really doesn’t shave as close as people say. With the grain it feels smooth, but against is still prickly like sandpaper.”

There are some solid budget options out there if you didn’t want to spend quite so much. This Remington R1 Rotary Shaver is a good example at £39.99. Alternatively, if you’re more of a Philips fan, its comparable 9000 Prestige model at £649.99 is a fantastic bit of kit. That said, electric shavers of the Braun Series 9 Pro’s calibre are rarely as cheap as £218.47, offering outstanding value for money.
