Scotland’s top Christmas light display has been named ahead of winter.

While people all over the country are preparing to celebrate Halloween, Christmas is just around the corner. Before we know it, the festive season will be here.

Before November begins and Christmas kicks off, Prime Casino has revealed the UK’s six most popular festive light displays. The experts looked at various factors when putting together the list, including the number of articles and social media posts about each display.

Coming in at number one on the list is Christmas at the Botanics in Edinburgh. Situated at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, the annual award-winning light trail begins on November 21 and lasts through to December 30.

According to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh website, the attraction this year will feature “flickering candles floating high into the night sky, batons of colour-changing light dancing in time, a sparkling flock of jolly robins and a sea of light that stretches out into the distance filled with all the colours of the rainbow”. Meanwhile, little ones will get the opportunity to see Santa Claus along the way.

The light trail also features food and drink vendors where visitors can pick up seasonal snacks. Spiced winter warmer, hot chocolate, and toasted marshmallows are among the treats set to be available this year.

According to Prime Casino, Christmas at the Botanics has been posted about 5,455 times on Instagram and 136 times on TikTok. It has also been mentioned in 62 articles, with the experts assigning the trail an overall rating of 7.0.

Meanwhile, also with a score of 7.0, are the iconic Oxford Street Christmas lights in London. However, the Edinburgh display beat them out in terms of social media — with the English display having only 2,091 and 56 Instagram and TikTok posts respectively.

London’s Oxford Street, which has appeared in 2,510 articles according to the experts, is a highlight of the English capital’s Christmas light switch-on. Approximately 300,000 lights are set to dangle from above the famous street in 2024.

The remainder of the six Christmas light displays are all situated in London. Christmas at Kew, the Regent Street Christmas Lights, and Christmas in Covent Garden round out the top five, while the Carnaby Street Christmas lights place sixth.
