Motorists travelling on a major carriageway in southwest London should prepare for delays after TfL roadworks launched.
Transport for London has warned 18,000 residents in Twickenham ahead of the improvement works at the A316 London Road roundabout – a major route into central London.
While drivers have been spared temporary traffic lights, the roundabout will have ‘reduced capacity’ which will ‘cause some increases in queueing at peak times,’ TfL said. The speed limit in the area has been cut from 40mph to 30pmh.
Richmond Council said the changes to improve safety and traffic flow will ‘inevitably cause some disruption.’
Following the works – set to last until next summer – the roundabout will have new controlled pedestrian Toucan crossings, increased traffic lane capacity and wider footpaths.

45-minute delays on trains from London Marylebone
Chiltern Railways passengers face a difficult commute home after a points failure in High Wycombe just as the rush hour gets underway.
It is causing 45-minute delays on trains between London Marylebone and High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
Trains will be disrupted until 6.30pm, National Rail said.

Two-hour delays after M62 crash
Two out of three lanes are closed on the eastbound carriageway of the M62, near junction 22 for Rochdale.
This was caused after a car towing a trailer overturned.
There are now nine miles of queues and drivers are being delayed by around two hours.
Emergency services including ambulances are at the scene.
Rail replacement buses after Wales train crash extended
Rail replacement buses have been running between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth since a collision between two trains in the Talerddig area on Monday evening.
National Rail has now confirmed that rail replacement buses will be in place until the end of the day tomorrow, on Thursday, meaning the line will have been closed for three days in total.

‘Services between Machynlleth and Pwllheli are able to run as normal. Services are also running between Machynlleth and Aberystwyth.
‘Rail replacement transport is in operation between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth / Aberystwyth.
‘The main road through Llanbrynmair (between Caersws and Machynlleth is closed to help with the recovery of the incident.
‘This means that buses have to take a detour, resulting in extended journey times.
‘Connecting trains to Aberystwyth / Pwllheli will wait for the buses to arrive at Machynlleth.’
M62 blocked after major crash
Huge queues are building on the eastbound carriageway of the M62 this after noon following a crash.
The carriageway is partially at junction 22 for Rishworth Moor, and traffic cameras show long queues are already building.

Disruption on SWR trains at London Waterloo
Passengers have been caught in disruption at London Waterloo after a faulty train blocks some lines.
SWR passengers face delays after a train developed a fault.
One passenger claimed they have been stuck on board a train for up to an hour without information.
When contacting the SWR customer service, they were told to ‘speak with the guard or listen to the on board announcements’ as the operator apologised for the disruption.
Delays on the M6 after overturned vehicle
Traffic was held on the M6 in Lancashire after a vehicle overturned on the motorway.
The incident happened on the southbound lane between junctions J33 and J32.
It is causing delays of 20 minutes in the area against expected traffic.
Traffic update after crash and fire on the M1
Statement from the fire service
A spokesperson for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue service told : ‘At 9.25am this morning (Wednesday 23 October) crews from Stopsley, Dunstable and Luton were called to a car fire on the M1 between J11 and J11A.
‘Firefighters used a hose reel to extinguish the fire. One casualty is in the care of Ambulance Service. Crews currently remain at the scene and a road closure is in place northbound.’

The M1 has closed in Luton, Bedfordshire, between J12 Toddington and J11A Chalton after a crash and a subsequent fire on the carriageway.
Traffic is held southbound after all lanes were closed.

The emergency services are on the scene and diversions have been put in place.

Disruption on Piccadilly line to Heathrow
Passengers on the London Underground face disruption after delays across the Tube network.

It means no trains can run between Hatton Cross and Heathrow Terminal 4. There are also minor delays between Uxbridge and Acton Town due to an earlier signal failure at South Harrow.

What is the leaf fall train schedule?
Trees along the railways, including fallen trunks and leaves, can cause trouble when autumn comes.
As lovely as trees are to look at, windy conditions can cover the tracks in leaves, creating a wet surface when the trains pass over them.
It is as slippery as black ice, National Rail warned.
This means trains have to go slower when pulling out from a station and arriving, causing longer journeys and delays.

A1M blocked in both directions due to animal in the road
Traffic is being held on the A1M at junction 8 near Stevenage due to an animal in the road.
Hertfordshire Police are on scene.
Drivers are facing delays of more than 45 minutes.
Delays between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings
There’s been a signal fault at the Wadhurst Tunnel which is disrupting some Southeastern services running between Tunbridge Wells and Hastings.
Passengers are facing delays of up to half an hour and the disruption is expected to last until 10.30am.
The signaller has to manually signal trains towards London and trains are unable to run towards Hastings.
Network Rail response staff are on the way to assess the fault and put a fix in place.
No trains between Liskeard and Looe
A signal fault between Liskeard and Looe has blocked all Great Western Railway services which run between these two stations.
Network Rail has sent specialist engineers to try and fix the problem.
All trains between these stations will be cancelled, and rail replacement buses are currently being organised.
The disruption is set to last until 9.30am.
Severe delays on Northern and Piccadilly lines
London Underground commuters are facing delays this morning due to signal failures.
The Northern line has minor delays between Kennington and Camden Town via Bank, northbound due to a signal failure at London Bridge.
There are also sminor delays on the Piccadilly line between Uxbridge and Acton Town due to a signal failure at South Harrow.
The line is part suspended between Heathrow Terminal 2 & 3 and Heathrow Terminal 5 due to a signal failure a Hatton Cross.
The Victoria line is experiencing minor delays because of a shortage of trains.
The rest of the Tube network currently has good service.
Signal failure between Loughborough and Leicester
There’s been a signal fault in the Syston area which is impacting East Midlands Railway services due to blocked lines.
Passengers can expect cancellations and delays of up to 20 minutes, with the disruption set to last until 10.30am.
