ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHAM) – A teenager ran to his father’s rescue when his dad collapsed during an afternoon of golf.

Jon Crabbe, 49, his son Jack Crabbe, 15, and a friend were at Ravenwood Golf Course when Jon Crabbe suddenly collapsed on the green.

“It completely was a shock to me. When I woke up in the hospital. I was completely surprised as to what I was doing in the hospital. I had no idea,” Jon Crabbe said.

Jack Crabbe said his dad showed no signs of cardiac arrest before collapsing.

“I screamed for help and ran to the cart and called 911 right away,” Jack Crabbe said. “I told them that he had a purple color on his head.”

According to the man’s son, 911 operators told him to start performing CPR and luckily it was something he learned in high school.

“I was pretty scared. I was just praying the whole time,” Jack Crabbe said. “And once we got to the hospital, doctors said CPR helped a lot.”

Dr. Krishna Rao was one of the doctors who cared for Jon Crabbe.

“The 15-year-old demonstrated a heroic effort and the skills, and the courage needed to act promptly,” Rao said. “He saved his father.”

The family said they are sharing their story to encourage everyone to get CPR training.

“It doesn’t take that long; it’s not very hard to do. You never know when you’ll need it. But, if you do need it, you might be saving someone’s life,” Jon Crabbe said.
