Kate Middleton has finally agreed to Prince William‘s wishes for their eldest son, Prince George, to follow in his footsteps and attend one of the country’s most prestigious boarding schools, according to an insider.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were spotted touring Eton College with the young heir in June of last year, fueling speculation about whether George would attend the same school as his father William and uncle Prince Harry in a few years.
A source reports that the Princess of Wales is dreading the moment her son leaves for boarding school, but she has ultimately accepted that it’s part of his path as a royal.
The insider said: “Kate long disagreed with her husband about sending him away, even though it’s tradition.
“Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernise the monarchy.
“Plus, she’ll miss George desperately. She and William argued about it for years, but he has finally won.”
Prince William attended Berkshire school from 1995 to 2000, where he boarded at school during the weeks and went to visit his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth at the nearby Windsor Castle.
The insider claims that Kate “finally gave in” as George wants “to be just like his father”.
The exclusive boarding school Eton costs £15,432 a term. With a 150-minute verbal and mental reasoning exams to get in to the school. Candidates will generally require a score of 125 or above to be considered.
The Prince and Princess of Wales relocated to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor in 2022, enrolling all three of their children at the local Lambrook school.
A source indicated that George would be able to visit his family every weekend at Eton, just as his father did with his grandparents when they were at the castle during his studies.
They noted that the school is just a nine-minute drive from the family’s cottage, allowing him to spend ample time with his parents and siblings.
However, the Princess of Wales still has a few years to enjoy her eldest son’s company before he goes to boarding school, as students at Eton typically start at age 13.
