A beloved Outlander character will be left fearing for his life at the start of the second half of season seven.

The next eight episodes of the hit Starz drama are finally coming to screens next month and fans can’t wait to see the next chapter of adventures with Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Meanwhile, their daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and her husband Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) face perils of their own after their son was kidnapped and taken back in time.

Roger now has to team up with his ancestor William Buccleigh ‘Buck’ MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh) to recover him from the 18th Century, but they’ll surely face their fair share of challenges along the way.

Outlander’s official Instagram page has now released a new clip from the midseason premiere hinting that Buck’s journey could be over before it even begins.

Diarmaid Murtagh as Buck MacKenzie
Will Buck survive his trip to the past?

In the scene, Buck and Roger have just arrived in the past through the stones of Craigh Na Dun – but all is not well.

Roger briefly muses he could be dead after landing on his back with a “splitting headache”, but quickly recovers with a gasp of air.

However, he looks over to see Buck curled up on the ground and struggling to breathe, clearly in agony.

When Roger inquires if he’s hurt, Buck confirms “My chest…”, leading Roger to suggest he’s having a heart attack.

“How would I know?” his ancestor retorts as Roger comes over to take a look.

A worried Buck then asks, “What happens if ye die out of your time? D’ye disappear, as if ye never were?”

Roger, frustrated, replies: “Maybe ye explode into tiny bits, but I don’t intend to find out. Just keep breathing.”

While Roger and Buck both feared for their lives post-time travel, it’s clear they’ll survive the trip as they both appear numerous times throughout the new trailer.

Even so, there could be some ominous foreshadowing at play for Buck’s demise, especially considering his concern regarding his date of death earlier in the season.

Readers who have already pored through Diana Gabaldon’s original novels have a good idea of what’s coming, but, for the rest of us, Roger and Buck’s fate will remain a mystery until later this year.

Meanwhile, the cast of Outlander has just wrapped up filming the show’s last ever season, which is expected to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic saga to a close next year.

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
