Frank McNally, Coatbridge & Bellshill MP, voted to pass the Employment Rights Bill at the second reading in Parliament.
The Bill seeks to improve workers’ rights through measures such as making work more secure, delivering a genuine living wage, banning exploitative zero hours contracts and ending fire and rehire.
It was introduced to Parliament on October 10 and is the first phase of delivering Labour’s Plan to Make Work Pay.
This Bill will support employers, workers and unions to “get Britain moving forward and update and modernise the legal framework in relation to employment rights”.
Speaking after the vote, Mr McNally told Lanarkshire Live: “I am extremely proud to have supported the second reading of the Employment Rights Bill.
“It takes us a step closer to delivering a wide range of reforms which together represent the most fundamental transformation to workers’ rights in a generation.
“When passed, the Bill will end exploitative zero hour contracts, see the introduction of a new real living wage, end fire and rehire, provide new paternity rights and give workers employment rights from day one of starting a job.
“This Bill is pro-worker, pro-business and pro-growth, and it is a vital step towards delivering this Labour Government’s priority of improving the lives of working people”
