The Great British Bake Off has come under fire from viewers after a particular phrase was repeatedly used during Tuesday night’s episode.

As the Channel 4 programme returned, fans took to social media to express their frustration with the frequent mentions of the word “frangipane”, as reported by the Nottingham Post.

One viewer joked: “If there was a drinking game for every time they say frangipane we’d all be frangipaned #GBBO.” Another viewer admitted: “still don’t understand what a frangipane is #GBBO.”

A third viewer quipped: “somehow watching #GBBO and the amount of times ‘FRANGIPANE’ has been mentioned in the last 10 minutes i think is genuinely nearing over 2000.”

Meanwhile, another viewer pleaded: “Stop saying frangipane! #GBBO lmao.” However, one fan remarked: “turns out I really like the word frangipane #GBBO.”

The contestants were tasked with baking 12 frangipane tarts in the signature challenge, followed by a technical challenge set by Paul Hollywood to make a Greek pie. Ultimately, Gill was crowned star baker, despite struggling in the technical challenge, while Andy was eliminated, with Dame Prue Leith commenting that he “didn’t have a good week”.

Dylan excelled in the technical challenge, with Hollywood praising his bake for its “great flavours and great textures”. After Andy’s departure, Dame Prue said: “It’s so sad to see Andy go. I adore the guy, but he just didn’t have a good week.”

Reflecting on his exit with a hint of melancholy, Andy said: “(It’s) just sad you know, I have had such a fantastic time, I have had so many laughs. But that’s the standard, c’est la vie.”

The 44-year-old revealed his ambition to venture into the world of baking after leaving the show, expressing gratitude for any potential opportunities.

He further detailed his future aspirations: “I’d like to think that I could do something in the baking world and make it my career. Probably start baking on social media and introduce the world to my bakes and flavours.

“Doing demos or even something within the media or tv, I’d be blessed and grateful of any opportunity. Hopefully I can bring some joy to people and encourage everyone, even mechanics, to bake.”
