Brits jetting off to Tenerife have been issued a warning from an expat living on the island.

TikTok user @seb_tenerife recently shared his experience at Tenerife South Airport, where he was for an early morning flight. He warned people to come prepared if they too have early morning departures.

“I’m in Tenerife airport now, it’s about 4.30am and my flight’s at 5.30am,” he said. “If you are flying from the south airport, make sure you’ve either eaten before or brought your own food with you. Because it is like a ghost town. There is nothing open. All of it is shut.”

Seb panned his camera around the airport to show how all the shops and restaurants had their shutters down. He added: “Or bring coins as there are quite a few vending machines that only take coins.”

Holidaymakers in the comments related to his predicament, with many recalling when they faced the same problem. One said: “Same with us in March… Duty free was closed too.”

A second said: “I made this same mistake in July. I genuinely thought duty free was open 24/7.” A third said: “We just flew back out there absolute joke of an airport and they expect to keep holidaymakers happy.”

In a previous video, Seb warned holidaymakers about pickpockets and scammers prevalent in Tenerife.

He singled out a particularly troublesome area on the island – the beachfront resort of Playa de las Americas, along with the adjacent strip known as Veronica’s. He cautioned: “Las Americas does seem to be the spot where it’s all happening, especially down Veronica’s […] So aye, just be careful, watch your belongings, and you’ll be absolutely sound.”

He also warned of a particular scam, whereby someone asks to borrow your phone under various pretences, such as needing directions or having lost their pals, only to make off with it once you’ve unlocked it.
