A Kirkcudbright woman has just completed a marathon hike up Scotland’s hills and mountains in aid of charity.

And now Jane McCartney is deservedly putting her feet up after climbing a total of 150,000 feet.

Her trek for Prostate Cancer UK began early this year and took her round Galloway and up to the country’s far north.

Jane said: “In January 2024 I decided I would hike 150,000ft in ascent and last month I managed to complete it.

“In doing the challenge I took in some Munros in Torridon, a few hills in the Outer Hebrides and even a few mounds on Orkney – as well as plenty of local hills.

“It’s the equivalent to climbing Everest more than five and a half times and with sponsors’ gift aid I have raised £4,001.25 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Jane added: “The weather has been awful this year and whilst doing the challenge my first and last hills were both done in the rain!

“I am also grateful to the EGGS section (Elderly Gentleman’s Golf Society) from Kirkcudbright Golf Club who held a joint fund raising night at the clubhouse with me, and we raised £1,240.

“Thank you to everyone who sponsored me, and those that were anonymous.”
