London’s iconic skyline could be transformed by £200,000,000 building ‘in the clouds’

A new building tall enough to ‘reach into the clouds’ is set to change London’s skyline forever.

The Wood Wharf is now in its first phase on construction in the Canary Wharf area.

It will create 3,600 new homes and bring in office space, with restaurants and other attractions also set to be built.

The land where it is being built is currently under water.

The Canary Wharf website states: ‘Wood Wharf’s careful masterplanning will provide up to 3,600 new homes, nearly 2 million square ft of office space, 350,000 square ft of hand-picked retail spread throughout lively high streets and boutique arcades. 

‘This year, the face of Canary Wharf will change forever, as Wood Wharf welcomes its first homeowners and rental tenants.’

The project has been designed by Allies and Morrison and Glenn Howells Architects, with the government loaning £200 million towards it.

One resident, Daniel, told The Telegraph he was one of the first to move into Wood Wharf.

The 44-year-old banker said: ‘It’s the only place I can see myself living in London.

‘I decided to move for security reasons, convenience for my work, and the fact that they were building a new neighbourhood and new community where you can come from anywhere in the world.’

Another skyscraper is also set to be built in the City of London, rising to 54 storeys.

The project is an example of confidence in the future of the City office market, the Construction Enquirer has reported. 

The plans, which are due to be submitted in the next few months, will include an expansive arcade at the street level rising to 18 and, as well as an adjacent  6-storey standalone cultural building for public use.

Developers added that they plan to retain and re-use elements of the existing building where possible.
