The festive season has well and truly arrived as Christmas markets open their doors and shops begin filling their shelves with an array of holiday delights set to bring joy to families all over. In a bold move, Aldi has sparked quite the debate with its novel “Chreaster eggs”.

Some customers are branding them ‘disgraceful’ while others deem them utterly charming. This freshly minted range boasts hollow chocolate concoctions akin to Easter eggs, embellished with lovable Christmas characters like Garry the Gingerbread Man and Parker the Penguin, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The conversation was ignited when a shopper chanced upon these seasonal treats recently, snapping a photo and sharing it with the caption: “Merry Chreaster ya filthy animal.”

In a playful response, Aldi shared the image and jested: “Babe what’s wrong you’ve hardly touched your Chreaster egg.”

Online opinions vary widely – some consumers express outrage at this Christmas confectionery concept. One critic was quick to quip: “Eggs! Just no, Aldi. We all know that Christmas chocolate is either sphere, triangular, circular or hexagon shaped! The most exotic shape allowed is Quality Street’s purple one!”

Another said: “This is just to save the embarrassment of having Easter eggs on the shelves on Boxing Day isn’t it,” while a different shopper commented: “I’ll take them all thank you.”

Further praise came from an Aldi admirer who commented: “I love Aldi, just when you think they can’t do better. This is so cursed I actually love it.”

And pushing the envelope even further, one individual half-jokingly suggested: “Where’s the Chreasterween eggs?”

Aldi responded: “Wow, now… We can’t go full throttle right off the mark! We thought we would ease our customers in with the Chreaster eggs first! Final destination: Easummalloweemas eggs!”
