BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A burn ban has been issued for Tazewell County.

Tazewell County Administrator and Emergency Management Director Eric Young put the ban in effect, and it applies to all open burning activities within the county.

The goal of the ban is to increase safety measures and address the increased risk of wildfires. Recent dry weather conditions and concern that debris will be burned, are concerns that were taken into account, according to Young.

The ban includes all outdoor burning activities, excluding cooking conducted within contained gas or charcoal grills.

The burn ban will stay in effect until November 8, but is subject to reassessment. Violation of the ban is a class-one misdemeanor.

People looking for clarification, or have questions, are encouraged to reach out to the Tazewell County Department of Emergency Management at the non-emergency number: (276) 322-7393. To report violations of the Burn Ban, contact the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office at (276) 988-0645. For immediate concerns about active, uncontrolled fires dial 911.
