BECKLEY, W.Va. – Ben Hatfield has resigned his position as Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney after multiple investigations are ongoing into his alleged inappropriate behavior in his office.

The resignation has been confirmed by the Raleigh County Commission, which released a statement saying assistant prosecutor Tom Truman will assume the role of acting Prosecuting Attorney until the Commission schedules a special meeting.

For several months, Hatfield has been the focus of allegations of misconduct in his workplace as well as harassment and other accusations.

The Raleigh County Commission started its own investigation and recently began the process to remove him from office.

Commision President Greg Duckworth said the commission will appoint someone within 30 days to take his place through the remainder of this year, and again in January.

“We will get together next week with council and prepare for everything,” he said.

Hatfield will be on the ballot but has no opposition other than a write-in candidate.

WVVA will bring more details as this story is unfolding.
