Names previously seen as “old lady” or “old gentleman” are becoming more popular for new babies.
Traditional names are making a comeback, with Ada leading the way as the top “old lady chic” name, followed closely by Agatha, Agnes, and Alethea.
All of these charming names share a common trait – they begin with the letter A and are emerging as favored choices for new parents, reports the Mirror.
According to The Bump, Ada means: “Noble or of nobility. Ada is a girl’s name of German origin. Derived from Adelaide, it signifies ‘noble’ or ‘of nobility’ and is a popular name in Scandinavian countries. Ada’s allure lies in its blend of old-world charm and contemporary appeal.”
Approximately 385,000 babies are born worldwide every day, as reported by the UN. This means that hundreds of thousands of parents face the task of choosing a name for their new addition daily.
Whilst some mums and dads lean towards modern or celebrity-inspired names, surprisingly old-fashioned names are making a come back, with many “vintage” options now regarded as “cool” again.
As Baby Centre points out, names that parents may have previously overlooked are now considered cute, with some choosing to name their newborns after family members who have passed away, connecting these names to the older generation.
Baby Centre listed 115 “traditional girls names that are making a comeback or might be soon”.
