A missing person probe is underway after a man disappeared from Edinburgh during the week. Selim El-Syed has not been seen since Wednesday.

The 58-year-old was last seen in the city’s East Hermitage Place and Police Scotland today issued an appeal to the public for information on his whereabouts.

The force said concerns are growing for his welfare following his disappearance on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He is described as being 5ft 4ins tall.

He is of medium build, with short black hair, and he is believed to be wearing green trousers and a yellow jacket, and is known to travel on buses.

The force said he uses a bus pass to travel around Edinburgh and further afield. Revealing the missing person probe, the force released a picture of Selim.

Inspector Scott Currie said: “We need to make sure Selim is safe and well and we are asking anyone who has seen him or knows where he might be to get in touch.

“If you are out and about please keep an eye out for him and call us if you see him.” Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 1133 of Saturday, 26 October, 2024.
