BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC/Gray News) – A new member of the Birmingham Police Department was sworn in Friday afternoon.

Devarjay “DJ” Daniel was welcomed as an honorary deputy chief by police officers with the Birmingham Police Department and 33 other law enforcement agencies.

“What I say on a daily basis is – believe in God, stay safe, stay positive, be kind to other people, pray for kids that have cancer, and don’t be mean to people,” the 12-year-old said.

DJ, of Houston, Texas, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at 6 years old and has undergone 13 surgeries since. He has always wanted to become a police officer.

DJ‘s dream continues to come true as he is sworn in by different law enforcement agencies around the world. At this time, he’s been sworn in by about 905 agencies.
