Strictly Come Dancing is back on BBC One as the contestants dress in their spookiest costumes for the highly anticipated Halloween special. Chris McCausland, the show’s first blind contestant, has continued to impress the judges and audience with his impressive skills since the opening week.
Chris and Dianne Buswell’s odds at winning the much-loved show have substantially improved week by week, and the comedian is the overwhelming favourite to lift the Glitterball Trophy. However, worried fans took to Reddit to discuss a possible issue as they compared his technical ability to that of other contestants, reports the Express.
Major_Bee4483 wrote: “I love Chris, not just his humour and comebacks but he is genuinely a great dancer, I think he’ll make it all the way…the only issue is, if he’s in a dance-off against say, Tasha, it’s still judges vote how can they choose him over her?”
They continued: “The public would for sure, but the judges if they’re going on technicality?? I’d want him in there tho 100% already deserves to be in the final in my eyes.”
Godfish23 reassured the fan, replying: “If the public are voting for him so heavily Chris will never have to worry about a dance-off.” Further supporting Chris, Sixmoreplz responded: “Yeah, I suspect the only way he’d ever leave before winning the damn thing is an injury withdrawal (which we don’t want)!”
Addressing the possibility of Chris finding himself in the dance-off, they added: “God what a nightmare situation that would be – imagine having to pick between Chris and Tasha? If that ever happened I suspect that the judges would decide to vote two a piece to keep in, so that it’d be a tie and then go with the public vote instead (which Chris would win).”
Another fan clarified that there is no public vote after the dance-off and if there is a split decision, head judge Shirley Ballas would get the deciding vote. In a separate Reddit post, Low_Food2893 admitted to having an “unpopular opinion” about Chris, saying he was “overhyped”.
They went on to say how they believed fellow comedian and actress Sarah Hadland deserved a higher score, responding to a fan: “So you think Chris tonight was stronger than Sarah? I mean we’re all entitled to our opinions but I think marking tonight was rather off.”
Kindly_Category7810 added: “I think Chris was accurately scored and Sarah was underscored – but her being underscored isn’t Chris’ fault.”
Judge Craig Revel Horwood has not avoided offering constructive criticism to Chris, especially following his emotional waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone.
He was quick to point out some technical flaws in the routine. “I did actually have a moment,” he began, “and then I thought about the technicalities of it. Your left elbow is way too low. It lacked any sort of swing.” The other judges, however, were all left fighting back tears after the stunning performance.
