BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -On Saturday, Bluefield State University showcased their school pride with a Homecoming Parade with some special guests from out of town joining them on their route.

They started on Washington Street and made their way down College Avenue, ending at Mitchell Stadium where they could catch the Big Blue football game. Many students groups took part in the parade, including the BSU Baseball team.

However, they were also joined by two guests of honor, Ms. Black West Virginia USA and Miss Black West Virginia USA who both traveled from hours away to take part in the event. They both said they enjoyed getting to see the energetic and welcoming Bluefield State University Students and wanted to take part from their own histories with HBCU.

“I have never been to Bluefield, West Virginia. I have passed by it going to visit my parents in Charlotte, North Carolina, but it’s an HBCU. I also went to an HBCU. I went to Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, and I just wanted to come and show my support for the weekend,” says Dr. Lauryn Christan Alexander, Ms. Black WV USA 2025, who traveled from Morgantown, West Virginia, to take part.

“I think it’s wonderful. I myself am a graduate of a historically black college and I understand the importance of them to our communities, and I think Bluefield State is a wonderful school, so I’m happy to be here and to be with you all,” says Olubunmi Kusimo-Frazier, Miss Black WV USA 2025, traveling from Charleston, West Virginia.

Both Mrs. Black West Virginia USA and Miss Black West Virginia USA encourage those who missed the parade to take part, with Doctor Lauryn Christan Alexander asking, “What isn’t there to love about Bluefield?”
