A pensioner has been killed after being hit by a car which failed to stop in a Lanarkshire town.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to Quarry Street in Hamilton on Sunday, October 27, at around 12:40am when a 70-year-old man was struck by a small black car, possibly a Mercedes A-Class.

Police and ambulances rushed to the scene where the man was pronounced dead. The driver failed to stop after the crash and an investigation has been launched.

Members of the public are being urged to come forward with any information that could assist police with their inquiries into the hit and run.

Sergeant John Houston from Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts at this time are with the family and friends of the man who died. Extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace the car involved and its occupants as soon as possible.

“I urge anyone who was in the area of Quarry Street on Sunday morning around the time of the crash who either witnessed the crash take place or who has any information on the car involved to contact us.”

“Anyone with dash cam or personal footage is asked to review it and please get in touch if it contains anything relevant to our investigation. If you have any information that could help, please contact 101 quoting reference number 0171 of 27 October.”
