When it comes to Christmas shopping, it’s always great to maximise savings and get the most out of your budget. And on a mission to bag as many beauty stocking fillers as possible, a reporter at the Mirror worked out a way to get £288-worth of premium makeup and skincare for free.

Health and beauty retailer Boots has a payday deal this weekend which gets customers up to 20 per cent off selected brands, one of which is Clarins. However, you could get more than £450-worth of beauty for less than £170 if you’re smart about what you add to your basket.

The Clarins Christmas Showstopper is the biggest deal to consider. It contains 11 products, six of which are full sized, alongside a reusable makeup bag and is worth £269.

Anyone who spends £70 on selected products, however, is able to get the showstopper for £79. This means that they will immediately save £190 on the contents, with shoppers praising its ‘great value’. One said: “This is an absolutely bargain buy full of everyday essentials. I use some of the products regularly so it was a delight to buy this collection for myself.”

Another added: “This is such an amazing showstopper! Jam packed with gorgeous products, there really is something for everyone. The case is a stunning colour and you can fit a lot in it. Highly recommend and great value for money.”

Some, however, weren’t as keen on the makeup bag, commenting: “Great selection of products , I have used all of them so far except the mascara and love it all . Must confess I really wasn’t keen on the bag itself as it’s shiny, but I love that too, it’s so practical.”

When trying to qualify for the set, you can be clever about that too. The Clarins Summer Essentials set was very popular throughout the summer months. Costing £40, it’s worth £81, so shoppers would instantly get twice as much value in products than what they’d paid. And in addition, the set has been reduced to £34 as part of the ‘up to 20 per cent off deal’.

Shoppers can snap up a full-sized tub of the brand’s popular Hydra-Essentiel Cream SPF 15 as part of the offer, worth £40 alone. The lightweight moisturiser comes with SPF15, making it the perfect addition to your summer beauty regimen for that additional sun protection. It offers deep hydration as it is infused with hyaluronic acid, and helps to plump the skin for a youthful glow.

Shoppers are also treated to the full-sized Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster Drops as part of the set, valued at £23, alongside goodies such as Clarins’ UV Plus 10ml and Wonder Perfect 4D Mascara (Waterproof) 3ml.

You’ll get £162 worth of Clarins products for £64 should you pick up two of these boxes, which means you’d still need to spend £6 in order to qualify to buy the showstopper for £79. Sadly, there aren’t any Clarins products available for £6, but there was an additional offer that tempted me to spend slightly more to benefit from additional extras.

The last deal sees customers receive £10 worth of Advantage Card points when you buy two selected Clarins products. One of which needs to be skincare and the Summer Essentials set can be one of the items. However, the second needs to be a solo skincare hero, so the Mirror reporter opted for the My Clarins RE-BOOST Hydra-Energizing Cream 50ml. The moisturiser is usually £25, but is reduced to £21.25.

With all of the deals stacked, customers will get £456 worth of Clarins products for £168. While it’s still quite an investment, these sets and skincare saviours are ideal for gifting. They can even be divided into stocking fillers and in fact, with this exact basket, it works out at 20 products and a makeup bag, which is the equivalent of less than £8.50 an item. In addition you’ll get £10 worth of advantage card points to redeem against a future purchase.

Another way to save money on Clarins is with the brand’s 24 Day Women’s Advent Calendar. Worth £262, it’s priced at £155 and gets shoppers three carefully selected beauty routines for face care, body care and make-up. The calendar stars some of the brand’s most popular products like the Lip Comfort Oil and Hydra-Essentiel moisturiser. But if you want something a little more purse-friendly, there’s also a 12-day Clarins calendar available for under £100, too

Meanwhile, earlier this week Marks & Spencer launched their beauty advent calendar. The calendar is filled with more than £300 worth of makeup, skincare, fragrance and more from the M&S beauty hall this year. Inside there are 25 products, 6 of which are full sized, perfect for pampering your way through to December 25.
