Nana Kasanwirjo insists Rangers WILL be up for the fight at Pittodrie as they prepare to go toe-to-toe with Jimmy Thelin’s red-hot Aberdeen.
The Light Blues were made to scrap all the way on Sunday as they ground out victory over St Mirren. The 2-1 triumph against Stephen Robinson’s robust Paisley outfit was by no means a glittering performance.
But Kasanwirjo reckons the grit shown by the Ibrox side will be vital as they look to make it a three-way slug out for the title. Thelin’s dazzling Dons have emerged as this year’s surprise package, matching champions Celtic step for step after starting the Premiership campaign with a nine-game unbeaten run.
Gers have been left trailing after dropping six points adrift of the joint table toppers but Kasanwirjo andCo are aiming to take a chunk out of the Reds’ lead when they travel north on Wednesday night.
Asked if they were ready to go to battle, the determined Dutchman said: “Yeah, of course, every game is a fight — not only Aberdeen, but for example, Sunday’s game was a fight as well. You see, we didn’t win that easy. We have to compete every day, every day, every day, training as well.
“Every game is a massive game. Sunday’s game, last Thursday against Steaua Bucharest, Wednesday, then next Sunday again in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final. So we have to compete every day.
“Every week is important. Every game is a big game, every week is a big week, and we need to look day by day, game by game, week by week, and it’s about us. Every game is a must win game for us.
“And what I said before, we need to look day by day, game by game, and now we’ve won against St Mirren, and now we go to Aberdeen. So for us, Wednesday is a good game.”
The Dons’ only misstep this term came at Celtic Park, when they rallied from two goals down to snatch a Parkhead point against Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops. Gers, meanwhile, have been anything but slick, spilling points against Hearts, Celtic and Killie last week.
But Kasanwirjo is not fretting about the prospect of taking on the undefeated Reds. Asked if Gers would need to hit new levels to halt Thelin’s team, the on-loan Feyenoord defender said: “No, it is only about us.
“We have to play good. We have to do things. And what I said before, every game is a massive game, not only Aberdeen. So we look game by game. Sunday was the game against St Mirren. Wednesday is Aberdeen where we have to compete again.”
