Dreams of sun-soaked skin, sandy toes and cocktails in hand might inspire thoughts of the perfect holiday escape.

Yet, for one man this year, his vacation to Gran Canaria took an unexpected turn thanks to the weather. Claudio Herbert, known on TikTok as claudiox35, shared that during his visit to the Spanish island, it was cloudy “99% of the time”. It’s a reminder that some things are simply beyond our control.

He posted a straightforward video on TikTok showing the overcast skies and hinting at impending rain, with the caption: “If you’re planning on coming to Gran Canaria for nice weather… don’t.”

The post telling people not to visit the Canary Island has garnered hundreds of likes, with social media users chiming in with mixed reviews of their own experiences at the popular destination.

One commenter said: “Looks like someone went at the wrong time.” Another shared their experience, writing: “I’ve been here for a week, and had like three hours of sun. Maybe we should go for a drink instead of the beach.”

A third replied: “Weather has been lovely. We’re in Gran Canaria.” Meanwhile, a fourth boasted: “I’m here now – weather is scorchio.”

Deciding when to jet off to Gran Canaria really boils down to what you’re looking to experience. For those eager for winter sun, the months from November to February are ideal for basking in mild temperatures when it’s perfect for sightseeing, hiking and even taking a dip in the sea.

Meanwhile, spring on the island offers an excellent backdrop for diving into the local natural beauty with comfortable temperatures and a host of outdoor pursuits to participate in.

But, if it’s a family retreat you’re after, the period from April to September has been dubbed “perfect” due to the warm climate and abundance of water-sport options. For a tranquil escape with plenty of sunshine, the winter months can’t be beaten, promising fewer crowds to contend with during your stay.
