Police are investigating a mystery prankster after a steam iron was filled with urine at Britain’s largest police station.

Officers at Charing Cross police station were left with yellow-stained shirts after the ‘prank’ contaminated the steam iron.

An inquiry has been launched into the incident, with officers currently searching work schedules to see who was on duty when the incident happened.

CCTV is also being combed through to see if there are any suspicious people worth speaking to over the matter.

Metropolitan Police said in a statement: ‘Police are investigating after two incidents of criminal damage that took place inside Charing Cross police station were reported on Saturday, October 26.

‘The incidents took place in an area that is not accessible to the public.’

Retired DCI Mick Neville told The Sun: ‘A joke’s one thing – but this is taking the ‘you-know-what’.

‘The public are often moaning that officers look scruffy on the beat these days.

‘But tampering with a steam iron like this would have left them smelling like a gents’ urinal if they’d used it to press their uniforms.’
