A restaurant business has defended the cost of its £25 all-you-can-eat breakfast after a slew of biting remarks.

The top-rated Cow Shed in Kent reacted after the hefty price tag drew some incredulous comments on Facebook.

The cost includes unlimited servings of ‘full English’ items, fresh pastries, cereals and hot drinks and juices at the family-run Bar & Grill in Thanet and sister venue at The Ship Inn in Faversham.

But some social media users were distinctly unimpressed, with several branding the price ‘ridiculous’.

One wrote: ‘Good grief! That’s madness!

‘There would have to be bottomless prosecco to justify that price tag.’

Another commentator opined: ‘No breakfast is worth £25 even if it is unlimited. This is Faversham not Mayfair.’

The appetite versus price ratio was the focus of one user who said: ‘This is a ridiculous price. One person can only eat so much.’

One of the wittiest responses came from a commentator who joked: ‘Considering setting up a GoFundMe page in order that I can go try this lavish breakfast at some point!’

But customers with barn-sized appetites are promised a morning feast to remember at the venue.

The Cow Shed issued an 800-word defence of its offer, which is available on weekend mornings with children under five eating free.

In a statement, the team said: ‘Yes, it’s definitely aimed for those who want to indulge, who are comfortable in spending the extra cash to immerse themselves in our quality “ALL YOU CAN EAT” breakfast.

‘Note, it boasts The Cow Shed grill up (£13.50 normally – full English), with our own recipe sausages, fresh pastries, cereals, hot drinks & juices.

‘Think about it, if you were to frequent any establishment that serves a certain level of quality, with that content having only one serving of each, you’d soon be breaking the £20 mark.’

The ‘herd’ also took the opportunity to serve up a reminder of the principles that underpin the restaurant and bar and grill.

They said: ‘In a ‘nutshell we are FOODIES!

‘One of the main reasons we made the decision as a family to start The Cow Shed being because our celebrations & commiserations tend to be based around food!

‘When venturing out, rather than hosting at home, we often felt there was some sort of compromise.

‘Price, quality, timings, environment, service etc.

‘We felt we could provide for others on the basis of what we had at home, when we entertained.

‘So hence The Cow Shed in its current guise was born, making MOUTHWATERING MEMORABLE MOMENTS…’

The Cow Shed venues each have a 4.5-rating on Tripadvisor and a Choice Award on the reviews platform.

The venues still have a way to go to be considered among the most expensive breakfasts in the UK.

An English breakfast at The Ritz is priced at £56, which includes two eggs cooked to the diner’s preference served with back bacon, Cumberland sausage, grilled mushrooms and vine tomatoes.

The meal is inclusive of the hotel’s continental list and diners can also choose from champagne and caviar varieties.
